National Day of Prayer for Children Sunday, 3 March 2019
This coming Wednesday we will celebrate the day we have all been looking forward to – Ash Wednesday.
This is a very special day for everybody. God, letting us know, reminding us, that we are made from the dust of the earth and that one day we will all return to dust. What are you thinking right now as you read this? Are you saying ‘Fr Emile is nuts’? Just stop and think and pray for a moment. In the readings of the past Sundays and Days of the Week, the evangelists have been giving us a very clear picture of what Jesus is doing to remind us all of His presence in our lives and in our world. We have seen how Jesus wants what is best for everyone. All the accounts of healing and setting people free from the power of Satan. In today’s Gospel (Luke 6.39-45) we read that when our hearts are filled with the love and presence of God, we will be able to live life fully, based on the Great Commandment – Love of God and Love of Neighbour. A full time job for each and every one of us. So, this time of Lent is a great opportunity to prepare ourselves for our life with God. I heard a preacher say one time: “Are you ready?” Ready for what? “Are you ready for the time when the Lord comes? Because when the Lord comes, He will not ask you whether you were in Church today or not. He will ask, ‘Did you know me?’”
Let’s make the most of the days ahead leading up to Easter to come to know God, to love God, to serve God.
God Bless you all, Fr Emile Frische MHM
